Like many people raised within inherited religious traditions, the questions explored in Moral Dissonance did not arise from a single defining moment. They emerged gradually through years of reflection within a background in which religious identity was primarily inherited rather than independently constructed. At the same time, the circumstances of that upbringing allowed room for intellectual curiosity, independent reflection, and the freedom to consider questions that were not always encouraged.

Over more than four decades, those questions continued to develop, eventually leading to two years of focused research. What began as personal reflection gradually evolved into a structured historical and textual study, shaped by sustained reading, comparison of sources, and careful documentation. Throughout that process, the objective remained consistent: to examine the available evidence carefully and respectfully.

Moral Dissonance is written from the perspective of independent inquiry rather than theological allegiance. It does not seek to diminish the personal significance religion holds for millions of people. Instead, it offers a carefully documented framework through which longstanding questions may be examined with intellectual honesty and respect for differing perspectives.

Dami Usttaz is a pen name adopted to keep the focus on the work itself rather than on the personal identity of its author. The book is published under Critical Reason Publishing, an independent imprint established to support careful historical and philosophical inquiry.
